A portion of the new bike lanes on 7th St. are indeed installed. LADOT crews striped the new road diet and bike lanes this past weekend from Catalina to Rampart. An LADOT contractor will continue to remove the existing striping all the way to Figueroa on weekdays. LADOT’s striping crews will follow shortly after. The whole stretch should be done in a week or two or so.
The new road diet treatment will make 7th St. vastly better for everyone using the street. The road diet should help slow motorists down without any significant effect on travel times through the corridor, making it much safer. Folks walking and crossing the street on foot will have an easier time: the bike lanes provide a buffer from autos, and make crossing much easier. Hopefully, businesses will have a better time of it as well, as drivers and bicyclists alike should have an easier time spotting them as they travel the corridor.
After the break, photos of the striping removal crews in action.
These grind off the old striping configuration.
It gets a bit dusty, so a streetsweeper cleans up the mess. Due to the configuration and the nature of the work, the street doesn’t have to be closed for the work to get done. More updates to come.

THIS IS EFFIN AWESOME.
