Hope everyone has had a wonderful Bike Week L.A. thus far! Day two of Bike Week marks the return of the annual Good Samaritan Hospital “Blessing of the Bicycles.” The event always draws a great crowd out, including bicyclists, elected officials, community leaders, and religious leaders to acknowledge fallen comrades and to wish bicyclists a safe and healthy year ahead. The Golden Spoke Award is also handed out during the event. This year’s award went to long time bicycle advocate and founding member of the Los Angeles Bicycle Advisory Committee, Alex Baum. LADOT Bikeways Engineer Tina Backstrom presented Alex with a representation of what will be a new bronze plaque on the soon to be re-dedicated Alex Baum bicycle bridge. More photos from today’s event below the fold, and on our Flickr page! Also, please vote for Good Samaritan Hospital as a Best of Downtown, in the hospital category: Go to www.goodsam.org and then click on the Best of Downtown ribbon.
