Don’t worry folks, It’s just temporary.
Starting Wednesday May 30th, through the end of July, a portion of the Ballona Creek bike path will be undergoing construction as it receives two new rain gardens. Basins installed along the path will be designed to catch and filter rainwater runoff from the school district parking lot. After pollutants have been filtered out, the water will be directed to two new rain gardens and a dispersal chamber built into the landscape.
Unfortunately, the bike path between Overland Avenue and the pedestrian bridge (north of Ocean Drive and Westwood) will be closed to pedestrian and bicycle access during construction.
For those of you who take this route regularly, you may consider heading Southeast across the Overland bridge and taking Ocean Drive or Virgina Ave. which both run parallel to the creek. You should be able to re-enter the bike path at Pedestrian Bridge near Ocean Drive and Westwood).

Will LADOT be placing DETAILED detour signs along the route? Too often, the path is just blocked and the detour way finding is sub-par. I hope there are extensive markings about how to get off and back on the path.
Thanks for the notice on here.
Will there be signs warning cyclists of the closure heading west before they go past the exit ramp to get to Overland?
I’d imagine that it would be difficult to make a left onto Overland from there, as there is no traffic light there.
