If you happen to be bicycle-inclined (and if you read this blog, we bet you are) there are quite a few things to celebrate this week in Los Angeles. A brand new, incredibly large, bike shop in downtown is having their grand opening on Wednesday. Two days later a brand new, incredibly awesome, bike corral is having its grand opening in Highland Park on Friday. Follow us below the fold for all the details.
DTLA Bikes – Wednesday
Bringing Back Broadway will be helping to celebrate the grand opening of the newest downtown bike shop, DTLA Bikes, tomorrow afternoon from 5 to 6:30. Joining the ranks of other excellent downtown bike shops (El Maestro II, Downtown LA Bicycles, and The Spoke among others), DTLA Bikes is just more evidence of bike activity helping to drive downtown’s ongoing revitalization.
DTLA Bike boasts a 15,000 square foot space that holds its own indoor track for you to try out bikes on before you buy. If you feel like celebrating their grand opening tomorrow, you can RSVP through their facebook invite. (Speaking of facebook, did you know we have our own page?)
Highland Park Bike Corral – Friday
(Ed. Note: The bike corral opening may be rescheduled due to threat of rain. If there’s a change, we’ll let you know)
Covered last week at LADOT Bike Blog, LA’s first-ever bike corral is scheduled to have a grand opening on Friday morning at 9:00 AM. Located at Cafe de Leche on the corner of York Boulevard & Avenue 50, the bike corral is a big step forward in bringing innovative bicycle infrastructure to Los Angeles.
If you want to attend the grand opening of the bike corral, there are several options open to you. LACBC, C.I.C.L.E., and the Flying Pigeon bike shop are all holding celebratory bike rides out to the site of the bike corral for its grand opening. Come celebrate the new bike corral with Council Member Jose Huizar, LADOT, and the bike community.
LADOT Bike Blog will be there to cover the opening and we’ll report back on the festivities next week.
