Local bloggers have been on top of this, but we wanted to briefly celebrate the installation of new bike lanes on 1st Street this past weekend, from Boyle Avenue to Lorena Street in the Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights. With a total facility length of 1.6 miles, the 1st Street bike lanes now serve such Boyle Heights institutions as Mariachi Plaza, Lani Vest Pocket Park, 1st Street Elementary School, and the Evergreen Cemetery. These lanes go a long way towards making 1st Street into a “complete street” that accommodates bicyclists, drivers, pedestrians, and transit users. Many thanks to the Boyle Heights bicyclist above who let us take his picture in the new bike lanes near Mariachi plaza. We didn’t catch his name, but he’s got one of the coolest bikes we’ve seen in Los Angeles.
Say hello to 1st Street Bike Lanes
