Way back in June, we reported that Council District 12 had given DOT approval to install bike lanes on Reseda Blvd. from Roscoe to Parthenia. We are happy to report that DOT crews have recently installed the lanes, closing the 0.5 mile gap between existing facilities. Reseda Blvd. now boasts nearly 10 miles of bicycle infrastructure that forms a continuous north-south backbone for the western San Fernando Valley. Many thanks go out to Councilmember Mitchell Englander, local area businesses (who okay-ed the on-street parking removal necessary for the lanes to go in), former BAC Chair Glen Bailey, and to everyone else who expressed their support to make these lanes possible.
I love bike lanes, but it sort of takes away from them when you look at the quality of the road. The sidewalk looks like a dinosaur walked on it, the asphalt looks like it was last paved in the 1970s. The skyline is littered with wires and ugly wooden poles. Compare to the picture posted of the green bike lane in Boston. Something needs to be done about the state of the roads and sidewalks in LA.

I live in the valley and I use the Reseda sharrow corridor all the time now…perfect. And now more bike lanes…excellent. A win- win for me.
I’ve said this before hopeful motorist will start respecting bicyclist on the street by seeing more and more bicycle facilities’ on the road and then recognize bicyclist have the same right to be on the road as cars. Let’s keep the positive energy and agenda going for bicyclist in LA. Sweet month so far bicyclist: the 7th bike lanes, 1st street bike lanes, Reseda bike lane gap completed, green bike lanes coming. All we need is the governor to sign the 3 foot bill into law!
