National Bike Month is quickly approaching and there are a number of things you can do to get people excited about biking in your community.
- Consider organizing a bike bus. A bike bus is a collective form of bike commuting where bikers take a designated route towards a destination (think local transit hub or park). Individuals are free to join or leave the bike bus at various points along the route, similar to a regular bus. If biking to work is the norm for you, This might be a good way to introduce friends and coworkers to commuting by bike.
- Between May 14th and May 19th, Recruit a friend and head over to one of Metro’s Bike to Work Week Events.
- Organize your own Bike to Work or Bike to School Event. Here are some tips on getting started. LADOT bike maps would make a great handout.
- Feeling competitive? This month, the League of American Bicyclists is partnering with Edmondo to host the National Bike Challenge. Tons of cool prizes and swag will be awarded to individuals who track their commute and miles pedaled. Better yet, consider organizing your own bike to work competition at your workplace or school.
