Bike Week LA is just around the corner, and we here at the LADOT Bike Blog want to do our part to spread the word! Last year’s Bike Week LA events were great and we expect this year’s events to be even better! This year’s Bike Week will take place May 16 – 20, 2011. More details are after the jump.
Bike Friendly LA
This year’s theme for Bike Week LA is Bike Friendly LA. Since last year’s event, a lot has changed to make greater LA (and Los Angeles proper) a better place to ride a bike. For starters, our own City of Los Angeles has recently passed its long awaited 2010 Bike Plan, and has installed a number of new bikeways (and enjoyed CicLAvia two times over). Metro has recently lifted its bicycle restrictions on Metro Rail during peak hours. Los Angeles County is diligently working on their Bicycle Master Plan update. Culver City has passed its first ever Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. Glendale’s Safe and Health Streets Plan has been approved. Long Beach celebrated their separated bike lanes very recently. And Pasadena has an update of their Bicycle Transportation Plan in the works, too. All over greater Los Angeles, the bicycling movement is gaining momentum and there’s no better time to commemorate our accomplishments and contemplate our futures than during Bike Week LA 2011.
